Coaching

Winning the ITU World Championships 2006 - the finish line   After winning the Salford triathlon, and guess who was commentating? Post race interview with none other than Mr Trew!

Fiona Moorehead-Lane (nee Ford)

I have been involved in the sport of Triathlon since 2001, and have experienced the full spectrum of training and racing various triathlon distances whilst working full-time. I've been mentoring, supporting and coaching athletes of all abilities since 2005. I understand the demands of balancing life, work and triathlon and the importance of a coach in maximising what precious little time remains for your training and sport!

As an athlete, I have been very fortunate to work with Steve Trew, Olympic Triathlon coach at the Sydney 2000 games, who coached me to consistent top 10 age group placings at ITU World and ETU Championships. Since opting to race the Ironman distance, I have been working with Spencer Smith, one of the greatest names in the sport and whose depth of experience as an athlete is as yet unrivalled. Experience is everything when it comes to such an individual sport as triathlon, as one size generally does not fit all - in terms of a training programme!

By designing individual weekly programmes around a periodised approach to your goals, whether it be to complete your first triathlon or simply to finish an Ironman distance race or even to represent Great Britain at the World or European Championships - I can help. The time and thinking that goes into designing a program for yourself can be handed over to someone who understands your aspirations, strengths and weaknesses and you can focus your energy on your training, feedback to your coach and racing!

Standard Coaching package

A standard coaching plan costs £15/ week, and includes:

  • An initial meeting, or conversation via Skype/ phone if out of area - to discuss your athletic background, triathlon performances, goals and motivation, work and family commitments, strengths and possible areas for improvement
  • A periodised training plan, based around your season objectives and goals, and work, travel or family commitments. This often includes a specific focus to improve identified areas for improvement or injury management, at different times of the year/ season
  • A weekly online program detailing individual swim, bike, run and additional sessions. This is planned according to your weekly feedback, progression and periodised overview of the season
  • Regular weekly phone and email contact, to clarify, discuss and feed back progress through the weekly sessions. We base this around individual preferences, so it it usually free-form and flexible each week as and when, rather than a scheduled time/ date
  • Standard swim, bike and run testing sessions, usually monthly or at bi-monthly intervals
  • Race preparation discussion, including strategy or key points specific to the course, conditions or location
  • Post race discussion to feedback key points to take forward and incorporate into future training, or learn from!
